Lawrence Walrond's photographs are on display at Nanaimo Arts Council Gallery in celebration of Black History Month

Island landscape caught in photos The photo collection on display was taken primarily in the central Island area, but also include stunning views from Waterton Lakes, Haida Gwaii and Mayne Island. He revisits many of these areas at different times of the year to observe changes in season and light, according to time of day. The photographs are printed on archival canvas with high quality archival inks which makes them look painterly. The colours are not enhanced through editing software but come from Walrond’s ability to capture scenes, honed over the past 50 years of experiment and practice. Walrond’s photos will be on display throughout February. An opening reception is set for Friday (Feb. 17), 7 p.m., at the gallery in Nanaimo North Town Centre.
